Is It a War? (1982)

1982 Dry Bones cartoon -War and Peace. Israel Invades Lebanon to Fight Terrorists. This "Golden Oldie" cartoon was published on June 9, 1982
...Twenty-four years ago!

Even I am surprised about how much this cartoon describes the situation in Israel today.

Back in 1982, Southern Lebanon was controlled by the PLO terrorists (rather than the Hezbollah terrorists).
Between July 1981 and July 1982 the Palestine Liberation Organization launched hundreds of attacks on Israeli citizens. The situation in Israel's north forced thousands of Israelis to flee their homes or to live in their underground bomb shelters. On June 4th and 5th, 1982, the PLO launched a particularly massive artillery and mortar attack on the Israeli population of the Galilee.

On June 6, the IDF (Israeli Defense Forces) crossed the border into southern Lebanon to drive out the terrorists.

The question then, as it is now, was: "Is this a war or just a military action?"

The answer now, as it was then, is clear.
Israeli drivers have become polite. Folks in the street are helpful. Suddenly we're all treating each other with love and respect.
And we're all watching special TV shows and updates.

Yup.
It's a war.
